Tribal Wars U12/U14

Our Tamariki have had the pleasure of participating in various Tribal Wars tournaments over the last month. It is a great chance for our young rangatahi to experience tournament play and also for us to mix and mingle with players around the North.

 U12

Kaipara hosted the first tournament for U12 boys and girls at Otamatea High School on June 12th. It was awesome to have teams come down and put the mahi in on the court. We had teams from Hokianga, Mid North and Whangarei showcase their skills. A big thank you goes out to our local referees who did an exemplary job steering the teams around the court.

Last weekend our U12s made the hike up to Kaitaia for our 2nd day of U12 action. The improvement from the first day to the 2nd shows all the hard mahi players and coaches are putting in each week. . We had teams from Hokianga, Mid North and Whangarei and, of course, our hosts Kaitaia. Big thanks to the parents for driving our teams up and to our awesome hosts at Kaitaia Basketball Association who laid on the games, the food and the beats.

 U14

Whangarei Basketball hosted four Kaipara U14 teams at McKay Stadium on the 19th of July. The action was fast and furious, and our Kaipara teams represented with mana.  The new uniforms on our young kōtiro look great. A big thank you to Grassroots for helping us out with funding to secure them. We also sent up four referees to gain more experience and help ensure there was enough help to cope with all the games. The Kaipara refs that attended were:

  • Ethan Barlow

  • Liam Brennan

  • Nikau Tandy

  • Eli Pere

Lastly, we would like to thank all our volunteer coaches and managers for their Mahi. All that time doesn’t go unnoticed.
